Cinemark Monroeville Mall

Project Scope

Conversion
The project involved gutting and demolishing a former JCPenney to create a new 12-screen, 2,200-seat movie theater at Monroeville Mall.
Demolition
The former JCPenney site was demolished to create a pad-ready location, followed by construction of an 18-foot cantilevered retaining wall and backfilling with 25,000 cubic yards of material. When soil from the new retention pond proved unsuitable, an alternate source was secured at the last minute, and all work was completed during winter months under challenging compaction conditions.
Logistics Solutions
Maintaining safety and traffic flow at a busy mall was critical, as the theater’s main entrance was inside the mall, creating unique logistical challenges. Unlike typical stand-alone theaters, this location required specialized equipment for access, and the team collaborated closely to plan and execute these solutions while adhering to the timeline.
