Wood Street Financial Office Adaptive Reuse

Scope

This adaptive reuse of two historic buildings restored the historic character of the Skinny and Roberts buildings, originally built in the early 1900s. At 5’ 2” wide and 80’ long, the Skinny Building is recognized as the world’s narrowest commercial building. The adjacent Roberts Building was converted into mixed-use flex offices. Both facades were restored with terracotta stabilization and cleaning, new historically-matched windows, storefront, cast stone, and fiber cement panels. Interiors and MEP systems were fully replaced. The buildings were connected by a new egress stair, with an additional stair and elevator added in the Roberts Building. The ground floor of the Skinny Building was prepared for future fit-out by a retail tenant and features operable windows and serving counters. The upper two floors currently showcase window art displays. The Roberts Building holds assembly space at the ground and 2nd floors equipped with a catering kitchen. The 3rd and 4th floors contain flex office. Rycon restored existing marble tile flooring, existing terrazzo flooring, and existing white oak flooring. Close collaboration with the Owner ensured preservation of the facades while interior modifications complied with the requirements of the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).
