Magee-Womens Hospital Generator & Boiler

Project Scope

Ground-Up
This new multi-story addition houses four (4) new emergency generators. The building included a shelled basement, facility workshops on the first level, and a two-story generator plant for a total of three (3) stories above grade.
Backup Power
The work included a replacement of the existing automatic transfer switches for emergency power for the entire hospital.
Continuous Operation
The scope involved replacing an existing 40,000-gallon fuel tank and upgrading three natural gas-fired boilers with four new gas boilers. Since the hospital required uninterrupted boiler operation, coordination and sequencing were critical. A new metal-clad chimney was installed for the boiler exhausts and the existing 170’ brick stack was demolished.
