Projects

Duquesne University College of Osteopathic Medicine

Scope

Successfully scoring the best out of six construction managers after a competitive RFP and interview, Rycon was awarded a GMP contract to build a new six-story 80,000 sq. ft. College. It is Duquesne’s first new College in more than 20 years. Constructed with deep foundations, structural steel and concrete on metal deck, major building functional spaces include advanced technology and hands-on medical training simulation (SIM) rooms, holoanatomy suite (virtual anatomy training), collaborative curriculum rooms, lecture hall, public lobby for events, upper floor student life social/study areas, and offices. Site work included landscaping with fill and plantings, sidewalks, lighting, and courtyard. The tight urban site required phased logistical planning, just-in-time deliveries, and coordination with City Public Works and the University to safely construct the facility while minimizing disruptions to the urban infrastructure. Prior to the RFP, Rycon was hired to deliver preconstruction services working with the University and Architect to develop schedule milestones and ensure the budget and project goals were achieved. The project received a RACP grant for $2 million.
