Successfully scoring the best out of six construction managers after a competitive RFP and interview process, Rycon was awarded a GMP contract to build the new six-story 80,000 sq. ft. College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) facility. Planned to open in 2024, it will be Duquesne’s first new College in more than 20 years. Constructed with deep foundations, structural steel and concrete on metal deck, major building functional spaces will include advanced technology and hands-on medical training simulation (SIM) rooms, educational and collaborative curriculum rooms and lecture hall, first floor public lobby for events and study/social space, upper floor student life social and study areas, and administration offices. Site work will include general landscaping with fill and plantings, sidewalks, site and street lighting, and a courtyard. The proposed building site is tight urban construction requiring phased logistical planning, just-in-time deliveries, and careful coordination with City Public Works and the University to safely construct the facility while minimizing disruptions to the urban infrastructure. Prior to the RFP, Rycon was hired to deliver preconstruction services working with Duquesne University and SLAM Architecture to develop the project schedule milestones and to ensure the budget and project goals are achieved.
